Powerwall is a compact home battery that stores energy generated by solar or from the grid. You can use this energy to power the devices and appliances in your home day and night, during outages or when you want to go off-grid. With customizable power modes, you can optimize your stored energy for outage protection, electricity bill savings and more.

When your solar energy system generates more energy that you need, you can store the extra energy with Powerwall and save it for later. Powerwall can recharge from grid when utility price are down.

Your stored energy is available when you need it, during day, night or when an outage occurs. A Powerwall system can power your entire home including your heater A/C as well as large appliances.

Storms Happen—Outages Don’t Have To

Keep your home and all appliances powered during an outage. When severe weather is forecast, Storm Watch app will automatically charge Powerwall to its maximum capacity to prepare for an outage. When an outage occurs, Powerwall will help keep your solar system running or, if using grid power, will transition your home to stored energy instantly.

Capture more Solar

With a fully integrated solar inverter, Powerwall can efficiently store solar energy and convert it into electricity to power your home. This means you can capture more of the solar energy your system is already generating during the day and use energy to power your home for free at night.

Maximum efficiency lower cost

Powerwall can power your entire home with one unit, making whole-home backup protection more affordable. Each unit is self-contained with an integrated solar inverter for added efficiency, resulting in fewer parts and faster installation. This helps make multi-unit systems more affordable and system expansions easier in the future.

Charge on Solar

Powerwall backup protection extends beyond the home. You can optimize your stored energy to charge your electric vehicle with clean energy during the day, at night or during an outage. Adjust your system settings to charge exclusively with excess solar energy, or share your electric vehicle’s battery power with your home using Powershare to extend your home’s backup support during an outage.

The biggest upgrade in the new Powerwall involves its 11.5 kW of continuous power output. Compared to the 5 kW of the current Powerwall 2 and the 5.7 kW of the Powerwall+, this new iteration of the most popular solar battery on the market takes home energy storage to the next level. The Powerwall 3 protects you from outages at any time of day, as well as time-of-use rate changes and net metering changes.

If you already have a rooftop solar installation, the new AC-coupled Powerwall 3 should pair well with your existing inverter setup by including a Tesla Gateway.
