The mountain massif that dominates to the south of Olympus – and which is divided from it by the deep rift in the valley of Tempe – and to the north of Pelion, from which it is divided by Mt Mavrovouni, is Kissavos or Ossa. With deep roots in Thessalian tradition, and acting as a permanent contrast to Olympus:

“Olympus and Kissavos, the two mountains argue as to which will bring the rain, which will bring the snow; Kissavos throws down the rain and Olympus the snow,” Olympus continues to say to Kissavos: “Don’t argue with me, Kissave, poor Turkish-trodden; I am old Olympus, known throughout the world, I have forty-two peaks and sixty-two streams.”

The west part of Kissavos faces the great plain of Larissa whereas to the east its slopes reach the sea, forming several little creeks and wonderful beaches. This is where the estate of Silver Bird is settled. To the north we find Tempi Vale and Olympus whereas to the south there are Agia valley and the mount Mavrovouni.
